Boy Bite With Bowl And Bowser

A mid-'90s advertisement for Super-Mario-themed Kraft Mac 'n Cheese, sandwiched around a weirdly compelling yet matter-of fact narration detailing all the parts that went into producing it.

That was quite...something.

These phrases are now swirling around in my head:

"Knobby-kneed submarine propulsion unit."

"Cheese geyser tone mattes."

"Bowl exit with interactive noodle rig."

...and perhaps most ominously:

"Tongue shadows."

So many questions.

I think this is two people reading off all the names of the individual files that compose the whole commercial. It’s either that or some audio from My Brother My Brother and Me.

Well, that was... something.

Metafilter: Basic boy bite.

I was a little startled at how quickly my brain went "Oh, I remember this!" and started summoning up the words to the ad. I never ate Mac 'n Cheese growing up, but apparently watched a whole lot of commercials.

this is goddamn amazing and just so delightfully bizarre -- i am sure there are lots of animation nerds here that understand this stuff but to me it just sounds like people saying actual words in a way that makes no sense

my favorite part was the "bowl exit with interactive noodle rig"

this is one of my favorite things i've ever seen. thank you so much for posting this, i needed this in my life

Kotaku has a bit more information about the video, which was produced by folks from Curious Pictures, the now-defunct studio who did the animation.

So, question: is that dinosaur something and I forgot that it was a thing? Because there's a lot of that big non-Yoshi mallet-wielding dinosaur (and the uh bones of his ancestors?) in a 30-second commercial about a game where there's already a friendly dinosaur and the boss is basically a mean dino-turtle.

It’s either that or some audio from My Brother My Brother and Me.

It really is amazing how much it feels like some especially dry, rapid-fire mbmbam sketch. If someone could get the McElroy brothers to just do a straightfaced cut-for-cut audio dub of the video I would lose my mind.

I definitely remember the dinosaur as being one of the Kraft Mac & Cheese mascots. I think there were usually two of them.

I presume the video was part of a demo reel for Curious Pictures, to make sure you can appreciate everything the commercial demonstrates.

The commercial definitely feels like a mid-to-late-90s commercial for some food product for kids. Is there some point at which this will become an aesthetic?

The dinosaur is Cheesasaurus Rex!

Ah! That makes much more sense; I didn't remember C. Rex and wasn't considering the simpler Kraft-side mascot mashup explanation.
