This is really clever, even if it feels almost more like something from Sigbovik. I could see it maybe being useful for single-use applications akin to air bags.

I've been watching a bunch of Battlebots and Robot Wars recently. Now I'm trying to imagine how to deploy this as a robot weapon.
Idea: Find a hole in the other robot's armour and fill it with kernels. Then turn on your blowtorch.

Hilariously clever bit of real science. Inventing new non-mechanical muscle like actuators for robots will be key for the robot revolution. And as the RR is essential for Fully Automated Luxury Gay Space Communism, fun cool research like this will inspire creativity in somewhat staid (corp/mil funding) field. I finally met Pepper very 'cute' but his researcher/parent pointed out that the arms move but could not even pick up a pen.
