This was hilarious! Thank you for posting it.

I want this ant to have a better life. I am rooting for her. 3/10

Google has a designer in charge of emoji related questions and her name is Jennifer Daniel.

Plus, there’s a good 35% chance that a Twitter ant is a Nazi sympathizer.

Oh my god I love this post. (and yes, I have a segmented bottom). Quite a few of us do actually.

How I feel about most ants. As long as they don't bite me. And even then, the ants were here first, so I can't be truly mad, we're living in their world after all.

I'm surprised HTC ant scored as well as she did considering that she seems to have two thoraxes.

My favorite is Facebook ant.

I liked the response to someone who asked about education and background:

“Haha, I am not bringing my tumblr account anywhere near my professional identity. It’s a small community, and this is just for fun.”

This made my morning. Thank you.

A great response, but also, ugh. Like why is she being asked to "prove" that she has enough authority to comment on ant emojis. I really hate people.

Dang, that's a pretty bad faith reading of an innocuous question. In its original context:
Anonymous asked: Greetings from New York. I'm a reporter for Quartz and saw your brilliant critique of ant emojis. We'd love to write a feature about it. Just 3 questions: 1. What's your background and where did you study zoology? 2. I saw other zoologists hating on Apple ants. Is there a consensus? 3. Are there other emojis that bug you? Best, Anne Quito, design and architecture reporter, Quartz
And from the reply, it's pretty clear the author also took it as a light-hearted question; they didn't want to tie their identity to their Tumblr account, but were happy to answer the rest of the questions.

Metafilter: wrong in every way, and yet I can't stay mad

If you like this, you may also like the podcast Emojidrome, where the hosts Andi and Ryan pick an emoji every week and compare all the different versions on Emojipedia.

(Emojidrome is definitely NSFW though; half the fun is the hosts trying to upset each other.)

Next time there's a Metatalk about what Metafilter should be, all someone needs to do is provide a link to this post. It says it all really.

"This ant inspires me. I want to be like her." Beautiful.

I'm surprised HTC ant scored as well as she did considering that she seems to have two thoraxes.

That is a big healthy petiole, not an extra thorax.

I love the correct details in the Apple one (except for the too round antenna club, they are usually more elegant in shape), but the whole cute cartoony style is not working for me. If I had to pick one it would be Facebook's, but the Slack one is also pretty good.

I've been practicing drawing ants from memory. Like that artist who asked people to draw bicycles from memory. I have a few colonies at home to observe and still it is harder than it sounds.

I challenge you to try, it is fun. See if you can remember where the legs connect to the body and what direction they point.

I participate in a Facebook group about maps where information-geeks with weird senses of humor share mostly map-related posts with each other. I posted this over there, a bit nervous because there’s nothing remotely map-related, but I thought it fit the vibe of the group in its combination of information-obsessiveness and adorkability. Fortunately, it was well-received, including by the group’s founder.

Dr. Curare, I would just like to say that this is the second comment of yours I have favorited about ants, and I would very much enjoy any FPP you could come up with about ants and/or anting.
