This is one of those times where I wish I could chat directly with the author here (yes, I could email or comment or Tweet or whatever. Not the same). Mine's a father and the US but I'm with her on the Polish and the secrets about family.

The totally mundane stupid secrets like 'is your sister still alive? what's her name? why did you leave and never go back?' They'll never answer, not the author's grandfather nor my father, but we'll never stop asking.
