The UK's Kennel Club has announced this year's winners of the Dog Photographer Of The Year contest (previously). There are new dogs, there are old dogs, there are friendly dogs. So many good dogs.

Second place was robbed, what with the bellies and the ears and the leaning and the little one on the left.

For my money, the award-winning Oldie is one of the most peaceful photos I've seen this year. I let out a great sigh of contentment upon looking at it.

What a grand old girl.

There are new dogs, there are old dogs

I don't even need to look. Eleven year old Copper's got them all beat.

Not going to lie, want to snorfle all those dogs - particularly the oldies.

11 years ago, my wife said, "let's go look at a puppy my friend brought home.."

OK...why not... that weekend we went to Terry's house, and he had two Siberian Husky puppies, he was planning to keep one.. he had brought them both home when the "breeder" he visited turned out to be keeping the pups in such poor conditions he couldn't leave them... he purchased the two remaining pups..

The next day wife let me know that I would be taking pup to work...

WTF?

I took the pup to work.. Pup spent the next 5 years interacting with at-risk kids... helping them find ways to navigate the world...

Lara is 11 years old now.. we recently brought home crazy-terrible-wild-puppy to be a friend... both are still surviving this ordeal...

Thanks, Johnny.. as usual, your animal posts touch our hearts..

I am trying to figure out how to explain to my best loved companion Cat that we need to get a dog. Anyone got any advice? Because ohmygod do I need a dog.

Awww... Snickers!

I love dogs but I'm not really a doggie picture kind of person... but every picture in the Oldies category made me teary. I have actual tears! Thanks, Johnny!

Yeah, that happened to me too. I should have known better, but it's hard to not look. Despite making me cry, those were by far my favorite photos.

Old dogs are the best. They have such an aura of wisdom, love, and peace about them that's hard to beat.

On the other hand, my senior (12.5 years and going strong) dog had a dental cleaning this week, and was very much still drugged out when I picked him up from the vet, and I couldn't stop laughing at him. I felt bad since he clearly had no idea where he was ,but just look at this.
