The latest Oglaf is not one, not two, but twenty-four pages long. It depicts the struggle of Kronar, wrathful eagle of blood, against the sorcery of scented candles. I’m still hoping for more Son of Kronar one day. (Some pages probably nsfw, others on the site radically so) Previously. Previouslier.

Now there's a lesson about confidence and masculinity and heroism and the place of storytelling in our experience of those three things.

A new fun thing to do: Google 'frazetta conan', pick your favorite painting where Conan is almost done beating up thirty guys and is by now standing on a pile of the first twenty of them, and have a fresh look at it while imagining that they're fighting over scented candles.

Poor Kronar. He learned the true cost of multiclassing.

This.... uh.... probably undersells how TOTALLY and COMPLETELY not safe for the VAST MAJORITY of workplaces "Olgaf" really is.

I mean, dick jokes are one thing, this comic has tentacled lovecraftian-horror monsters made of dicks

I love play, but there are nsfw pages in this one. (Kroner tends to get erections while fighting)

Also, I'm digging his short haircut.

Kronar. Scourge of Kings. Eater of candied fruits. Comparer of woven fabrics. Frequent bather.

I just read this and was just stunned. Oglaf never goes this many pages. Praise Sithrak!

Twenty-four whole pages of Kronar? Sorcery.

"Silence! I heard your story- 'revenge'

Good story"

Basically everything OGLAF does with Barbarians whether Kronar or more generic or even berzerkers is fun. (The last two links are technically SFW, but they are OGLAF, so best treated as NSFW.)

My punishment for reading Metafilter at work is hearing about this and not being able to read it for another eight hours or so.

(Kronar tends to get HONOR while fighting)

Fixed.

I'm at work so I can't get you a link, so here's two words instead:

COCK RAMPAGE!

(Oglaf is so good. And filthy!)

After (15 or more?) years of reading online comics, there are very few that have stayed fresh and clever enough to retain my interest. Oglaf is definitely one of them.

Oh, and the alt-text puns are great: "Kronar's blade sang! Not a catchy tune but it got stuck in a few people's heads"

Oglaf has a wiki.
At seven pages Habeas Corpus better known as Cock Rampage was the second-longest Oglaf story, second only to Cumsprite.

Oglaf has lost nothing over the years but I still pine for more tales of the older characters like Ivan, the Mistress, or Grier. Still, 24 pages of Kronar is a blessed event. VICTORY AT SEA!

I was really impressed by how well this Kronar adventure follows the template of a Robert E. Howard Conan story, beat by beat. (Not that kind of beat.)

There are so many things in this that will be someone's as-yet undiscovered fetish. Classic Oglaf.

I like how it starts as a straight-up remix of Leiber's "Bazarr of the Bizarre" and then just... goes places.

Isn't there a fanon that Grier is the son of Kronar?
posted by Halloween Jack at 12:59 PM on August 6 [1 favorite]

Halloween Jack: Grier doesn't have the chin for it. Plus, Grier is also a lesbian, which is its own hurdle.

I've thought that this nameless, but very angry woman is a candidate. Strong chin, solid frame, and while she's certainly more wordy than Kronar she's got the whole dramatic ultra-violence and angersexuality as well. (If I need to tell you these are NSFW at this point...)

Paladin1138: It has reviews of tentacled lovecraftian-horror monsters made of dicks. (... see above)

I don't think anyone in comics does color better than Trudy Cooper, and that's shown off nicely in the Kronar story. The color is always gorgeous and evocative, and aids the storytelling— e.g. she uses changes of palette to underline a change of time or place.

technically that's true, but Vorpal Blade is really where that arc starts, giving it another page to tie with Cumsprite.

In my head Kronar always sounds like Nathan Explosion.

Also, I hope I can remember to always call magic blast rays "bzowts" now.

I don't know how I forget about Oglaf, but I always do, then I find it again, and there's all the wonderful catching up I get to do. Truly a blessing.
