According to the New York Times (and the curator of an exhibition of her work), Donna Gottschalk is the most famous lesbian photographer you've never heard of (NYT Link)

Brave, Beautiful Outlaws opens August 29th at the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art & features photos that Gottschalk took of herself and other important figures in her life.
