The Team Coco channel just posted The First Episode Of "Late Night With Conan O'Brien" to YouTube, 25 years after it aired. It is pretty interesting to see how far both he and the format of the late night talk show have come.

I read that as "Team Coco Chanel" and was mightily confused for a moment.

I'm curious what they (had to?) cut out. There's a pretty obvious cut right after the monologue, and it only runs for 38 minutes.

As was I. As were we all.

I assume cut content was something they'd have to license now to show online. I have to admit I read Foosnark's comment a few times before I understood what their issue was. I had to look up Coco Chanel, but was already familiar with team Coco. Oddly I know I've heard Coco Chanel through comedies before but I guess I just kind of heard it as a goofy stock joke name, now I'm making the connection and it makes Chanel seems like a joke brand now.

I vividly remember watching this when it aired. I am now officially older than dirt. I am dirt's withered grwat-auntie, and I give dirt Wintergreen Lifesavers from the bottom of my enormous purse. "Oh, dirt," I rasp in my wavering dearh-rattle of an auntie voice, "I remember when you were just a layer of sediment. I lost my spine in the War of 1812, you know."

I just remember being really happy that someone was so excited to put Jonathan Richman on network TV again.

I put the cut and uncut ones on two screens side by each. After twenty minutes of Stereococo, my finding is that it seems to skip over a lot of the musical interstitial bits by Max and his Seven.

Man. 1993. I got to see an episode taped in that studio when my family visited NYC in 1996 (one of the guests was a star from the movie The Craft). I had no idea, at the time, that the show had premiered so recently. It felt like it was already a pop cultural institution.

Welll, to be fair, it has been around for fourteen years at that point. Conan arrived at the show in 1993.

Is he still a jerk? I ditched Conan when he wouldn't stop punching down at Anna Nicole Smith. It was disgusting.j

I think it's been a few since he's said anything about Anna Nicole Smith.
