OH MAN these are the little tamarins who use to be at SF zoo! We don't have emperor Tamarins anymore, we have Pied Tamarins- not as fancy, still cute. The Pied Tamarins are much shyer, but I remember these little friends, they were always so interested in the people coming to see them, they were so friendly. The Siamangs we still have are like that, they like to hoot at people and watch them. Primates are great.

Holy shit, you guys. I think those things might be some kind of communication device.

Wait. Is that one filming us?

It is truly a shame you can't hear the fairy-like twittering these little guys make... Just the big durdurblahblah sounds of humans

These might just be the cutest monkeys I've ever seen. Yes, it's the mustaches.

They look like they were made in Jim Henson's Creature Shop!

I’m magning the design discussion:

A: More monkeys...
B: How can we make them different?
A: Crests?
B: Nah, the Bird Group took them all.
A: Saberteeth?
B: Monkeys are enough trouble.
A: OK, fair. Um.... I have these extra moustaches.
B: Great, and let’s paint their back ends orange!
A: ....
B: For, um, safety reasons!

They look like the Lorax come to life!

Do both sexes have those luxuriant moustaches, or just the males? Either way I'm deeply envious.

There is something very catlike about tamarins.

If my cats had mustaches like those, though, I would never leave the house for all the brushing....

Someone get those monkeys some moustache wax and enter them into a moustache curling competition. They'd win by a landslide!

Do you want to expose monkeys to hipsters? That seems cruel.

Hey, moustached tamarins, man! Singe aucune pour moi.

At the Omaha zoo there's an indoor jungle pavilion with some tamarinds that just roam around freely and come up to people on balconies and such. When I was there they ignored me and were totally into an attractive young woman in a tight tank top.

Information on Emperor Tamarins and where they are from and what zoos have them.

I was fortunate enough to be interning at the LA Zoo about... god, 20 years ago... and got to help clean the tamarins a few times. They are just as enchanting up close, and they make the sweetest little twitters, coos, trills and purrs.

One of them landed on my arm and vigorously humped it, and even THAT was adorable.
