But we're neoclassicists, I guess, at heart

Give a duo of horny 70-year-olds the world's most basic video-editing software and a Google image search for ancient statues, and you get this: the puerile, delightful music video for the song Missionary Position, by Sparks.

Is like to point out that achieving the desired result for the missionary position required digital manipulation, as is so often the case.

That's just twisted.

You might pride yourself,
You're so avant-garde,
But we're neo-classicists
I guess at heart

So, I guess we can assume that they're both a missionary alumnius?

Ron Mael is truly one of the greatest lyricists of the last fifty years.

For more ancient statue sexy dancing, I'd recommend some of Nina Paley's work.

What is remarkable about Sparks is that Hippopotamus is easily as enjoyable as Kimono My House or Propaganda - in terms of my enjoyment they had a bit of a dip when they moved back to LA and did more rockish things, but since the late 90s have been reliably glorious. I was thinking the same thing about They Might Be Giants while listening to their most recent album again the other day - it's just as hummable and fun as Lincoln or Flood were thirty years ago. What the two bands have in common - what is, I think, important - is that they're not afraid of being very silly. In fact, silliness is often their *raison d'ĂȘtre*. Silliness keeps you young, I think.

There should be a place for bands and performers like this who aren't likely to be thrust into the dreary, po-faced Hall of Fame, but should be celebrated for consistent awesomeness and the enhancement of life.

Something like the Fun Music Hall of Tame--a nondescript building where laureates can get a cup of coffee and a piece of cake. Situate it someplace completely anodyne. Like, I dunno, Cleveland.

If I had kids, I'd use that to explain how they got here.
