For Freedoms is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization to increase civic discourse via art.

For Freedoms was begun in 2016 by two artists, Hank Willis Thomas and Eric Gottesman.

It was inspired by FDR's famous speech delivered before Congress in 1941 and the Norman Rockwell works illustrating the four freedoms spoken about: Freedom from Want, Freedom from Fear, Freedom of Speech, and Freedom of Worship.

This year, For Freedoms launched the 50 State Initiative project, involving billboards replacing advertising with art (one in every state) and events throughout the country designed to create a dialogue about art, civic engagement, and politics. You can see the wide array of projects and programs at their Instagram page.

Hank Willis Thomas and photographer Emily Shur have also collaborated on a series of photographs to bring Rockwell's works forward to today, creating 82 contemporary photographs with a wider array of people represented.

I wish the RISD town hall wasn't on the same day I go back to work. But, Kid Ruki goes to an arts high school and the senior history class (which she took last year as a sophomore) is focused on art as protest, so I'm going to share this with the school.

Her school made headlines last year for art as protest so this is right up their alley.
