StreetMattress.com - Much like "found art", this site chronicles the phenomenon of abandoned mattresses, and finally gives the public a forum on which to comment on them. Some if my favorites are here, here, and here.

That creepy hand is freaking me out more than the stinky mattresses.

Ode to the street mattress, whose stains speaketh a thousand words...

I'm half expecting Divine to show up in one of "The Untouchables!" shots. hee.

Cool and quirky. Although I have to say I will never be able to take 'found art' seriously, especially after watching Ghost World.

Insomnyuk, the mention of that movie brings back memories that are way scarier than these mattresses.

Funny you should mention Ghost World, because this site reminds me of my favorite line from that movie:

"Hey, there's that pair of jeans again."

I remember when I lived in San Francisco, one morning they had unlimited trash pickup or something. After work I went out drinking with a few buddies, and my walk home was a stroll through an Oz of refuse. Lots of mattresses, lots of shoes, broken lamps, barcaloungers, you name it.

One note about abandoned mattresses: if you are looking for new digs, the sight of an abandoned mattress in anything like proximity to your would-be home might be a hint not to move there.

But discarded mattresses can be so useful!
