No way, those are good parents! You don't call the fire department for something so easily removable at home.

Cosmic Justice: while I was laughing at her head stuck in a pumpkin, her brother was singing that evil incantation that is likely to be stuck in my head for the rest of my days.

My wife was bartending one Halloween and one of the owners and his wife were in attendance. The owner's wife was a wee bit in her cups and decided to put a jack-o'-lantern on her head. This poor thing had been on display with a candle burning in it for about a week and was well on its way to decomposing. But the owner's wife apparently walked around with it on her head much of the evening, sipping her adult beverages through a straw until the gourd finally fell asunder. The next morning my wife received a frantic phone call from a very hungover owner's wife wanting to know WTF this snotty, slimy shit in her hair was and how it got there. And thus a legend was born...

I'm more fascinated by the kid who keeps singing the same lyric over and over again, just out of frame--are we sure this wasn't directed by David Lynch?

Am I the only one that's horrified that parents would decide "gee, time for eternal ridicule for my child?" I mean, I have some kind of embarrassing stories I tell about my kids, but they pretty much stop at the edge of my social circle. A video on the internet is more like forever.

Apparently she decided to lean in and own the whole thing, which is good. Hopefully someday she can get a great video of Mom and Dad pooping themselves in the nursing home.

How on earth did she resist titling that article, or at least the video It's Decorative Gourd Season, Motherfuckers?

There's a wonderful moment as she's screwing up her resolve to get her head in. Her mother and brother have challenged her that it won't fit. She knows that she just has to push a little harder. She feels her nose squeezing against the opening. It's such a pure version of that single-minded effort you get with adolescence. You KNOW you can do this. Don't let the nay-sayers get you down! Any thought of eventual repercussions vanishes in the surge of ambition. You got this! Your head is going in that pumpkin! Beautiful.

I'm not bothered by this. She's a teenager, not a toddler. I am much, much more bothered by Jimmy Kimmel's "tell your kids you ate their Halloween candy and film them crying" videos, or the parents who "discipline" their kids by publicly humiliating them. The subject of this video wrote about it in the Guardian, for heaven's sake -- she certainly doesn't seem to be too scarred by it.

I loved getting to read the story behind this! Although once again, I find myself wishing for the Angel Moroni to come down and give the singing brother what for.

I really liked the interaction between her and the brother closest in age. They seem like good friends. And he was helping her, unlike Mom.

I mean, Mom was filming before she even started putting her head in the pumpkin, so it's not like the daughter didn't know she was recording. They were all hamming it up for the camera.

What was up with considering calling 911? Surely they could just make the hole bigger. It's a pumpkin for heaven's sake! Not an iron gate!
