“Parker, who brings a life-sized Bob Ross cutout to her events, agreed.”

American Libraries: “The show ended in 1994 and Ross died in 1995, but the internet and streaming services have given new life to him and his program. Libraries have taken up the palette, hosting paint-along nights that blend nostalgia and stress relief - and bring new audiences through their doors.” Also covered by Deseret News and Wbur. In Loveland public library, East Brunswick, Cass County, Pima County, Salt Lake City, St. Joseph, Waupaca and this evening in Ann Arbor.

There have been some excellent Dog Rosses this Halloween, including one on We Rate Dogs.

Twitch has an official Bob Ross channel that runs weekend marathons. Humorously, the stream's chat pretends that Bob is doing these live, like any other game streamer. Lots of betting on whether there'll be a cabin, posting "GG" when he finishes, and shouting "RUINED" when Bob does that thing where he looks like he's destroying the painting before making it even nicer.

Oh thank goodness I found something relaxful and mindless to watch/read after the Jackson Hole webcam chat shut down. I'll take cabins over red trucks any day.

Also:
  • Rampant speculation on new strats and new meta
  • Profusely greeting Bob and worrying about his ongoing health during the stream (pee breaks et al.)
  • (at the same time, complaining that he never seems to read chat or acknowledge subs)
  • Occasional timing and discussion on his speedruns (Bob has a consistent sub-30 PB)
  • Constantly asking if this is a marathon
...and most important of all:
  • !ripdevil 👿

This is the most wonderful thing ever. Libraries + Bob Ross: just creating a happy little (well-lit) place to paint and read.

I like this idea better than wine-and-painting and would be extremely into this idea.

I'd still consider paying to do such a thing since half the appeal of those wine-and-painting places is that they provide all the materials and clean up for you (or at least give you an easy place to clean).

Thanks to this post, I looked for local library painting events and posted this here event on IRL. It's not Bob Ross, but it'll do nicely. Thanks, Wordshore!

I’ve recently been watching the Granada Sherlock Holmes series (only two more episodes to go) and brooding over how Jeremy Brett died in 1995.

Then I saw this post and read where Bob Ross died that year, too.

That led me to the comprehensive list. Peter Cook, Paul Eddingron, Gale Gordon, Fritz Freleng, Jerry Garcia, Burl Ives, Wolfman Jack, Mickey Mantle, Dean Martin, Doug McClure, Elizabeth Montgomery, Donald Pleasance, Ginger Rogers, Lana Turner, Howard Cosell, Orville Redenbacher, and so on...holy cow, what a terrible year!
