It’s gotta be $3.30 or $3.15. I thought my election anxiety would be calmed by this, but alas...math and zooming in on photos followed. *sigh

Dillionaire it’s tree fiddy. Except that I think those are Canadian quarters. But it’s possible that that’s Loch Ness.

The "Frog train" image reminds me of the schoolteacher from Finding Nemo.

"Oooooooooh, let's name the zones, the zones, the zones.
Let's name the zones of the wide wetlaaands:
the quagmire, the swampland, the peat bog, the marshland.
All the rest are too muddy to seeeeeeee!"

A sea horse carrying a Qtip

Is that to clean out his belly button after the kids have been in it?

Yoga class

Maybe that guy has pulled off to the side to wait for a tow truck to come sort out the pile-up that's just visible in the right foreground.

Was disappointed that what I consider to be the definitive "no context" image, Sewing Machine Tuxedo Guy at the Site of the UPS Truck Crash (previously on MeFi), isn't anywhere in their top submissions list. I can only presume it ran afoul of their "No purely random/WTF" rule.

Country road

"One day, when I came home from work, I accidently put my car key in the door of my apartment building. I turned it...and the whole building started up. So I drove it around.... A policeman stopped me for going to fast; he said, 'Where do you live?' I said, 'Right here'. Then I drove my building onto the middle of a highway, and I ran outside, and told all of the cars to get the hell out of my driveway." -- Steven Wright

All silliness aside, there are some really striking images especially in the "top picks" link. Cool post!

(Between 2003 and 2010 I had a blog called growabrain, which also had a collection of random ‘pics and gifs’ that were similarly “strange“. I haven’t visited it for ages, and it’s odd to see now how occupied I was with Dick Cheney.)

A sea horse carrying a Qtip

That one gets me every time -- it is just so damn cute. "My q-tip. I found it. I keep it. It's mine."

A fetching collection of images, but a quibble... A sea horse carrying a Qtip? There must surely be a story behind that.

As I recall, the original photo was documenting ocean pollution. :-(

Yeah, I thought it looked like a Scottish loch, so that would make sense. Looks as if an American tourist with $3 in his wallet substituted a couple of British 10p coins for quarters to make the gag work.

Looks like even back in 2009 you could see the direction internet lulz culture was going (cw: hate symbol). 2009-era me was embarrassed to get into so many fights with online nazis. 2018-era me is embarrassed he didn't take those fights more seriously.

Two coins of the same size and not recognizable as U.S. currency. I zoomed -and- measured.

Google Images provides the source (another Reddit thread) with a higher-res image. They're British 10p coins.

Canadian quarters (totally different take on the Queen's head) versus British 10p. 10p coins are only 1% larger in diameter than US quarters, so they serve fine as visual approximations.

For the benefit of the slow. . . what gag? Is there some numerology involving 3.20, or 3.50, that makes this something more than a random photo of some money held in the air for no reason at all?

This gag in reference to this South Park bit.

In an attempt to move on from $3.50: how about that photoshopped image by Zacharie Gaudrillot-Roy, eh? Part of a series called Facades. Good stuff.

this reminded me of sneaking on the computer late at night as a 13-year-old and using stumbleupon's pictures-only option, staying up till 4 in the morning looking at whatever random images it threw my way
thanks
