The awesome thing about the real cat is that it has no idea how hideous it may look to the rest of us. It’s loved and cared for by its peeps and that’s enough.

The Rapaport overdub kills, though. I totally lost it!

Part of our weird relationship with cats has to do with them being cute and making noises vaguely like a human baby, but there's probably no inherent advantage to any of that to other cats, attractiveness-wise. For all we know this cat's a unique beauty. Also that was funnier than I expected.

Thank god for the instagram because I couldn't take someone actually yelling at him, poor little unblinking thousand-yard-stare child.

15/10, would snorgle. It’s gorgeous.

Part of me is all: oh god we as humanity has overbred animals so much- I hope this cat isn’t in pain or suffering because it’s so clearly overbred. And then the other part of me is all: hee hee hee hee look at the really silly kitty I want to snorgle it and it’s silly thousand yard stare!

I'm still not 100 percent convinced its not a hand puppet.

Me: Look at this cat! Isn't he cute?
Mr. Hgg: The fact that you think that cat is cute worries me
Me: What? Why?
Mr. Hgg: Because you tell me you find me attractive and there is something very wrong with that cat, making me seriously question my own looks

I had a cat cousin to that! When persians go wrong and feral, they get very very odd. He was rescued and renamed Colonel Fluffy Bottom and had a grand three years hunting in the nearby fields, coming home for cuddles, food, fur clippings and attempted tooth brushings.

Persians are mad muthafuckers, loving and affectionate and desperate to kill things.

I think the next scene must have Ma's boy all quiet and still, facing the corner of a dark rubbly basement.

Never mind the cat, I can't believe we breed men like that.

It's just Weird Girl's cat Mr Whiskers - probably has a poo-prophecy.

Augh, why are humans so loud? I'm pretty sure I would be less yelly and sweary than that in the event of a full-scale alien invasion—but show some people something as mild as a slightly non-standard cat and they just completely lose their shit.

That cat does have a pretty advanced case of Crazy Eyes, though.

This cat has been the subject of my family for decades now and as it approaches its 110th birthday, I have been put in charge of watching and waiting for its second coming. My grandfather watched the cat in the 1920s and my father watched in the 1960s. It is now my time. Do you know the history of the cat? Do you know what lies within the soul of this cat? Why are you here? I will find out.

This gotta be viral marketing for an offbeat indie horror movie, no?
posted by bigendian at 5:01 AM on November 14, 2018 [1 favorite]

I feel like that was intentionally "let me make this go viral." Like there's no "ma," and what was she supposed to do? I feel cheated that we didn't meet ma.

I assume this is the product of too much inbreeding.
posted by Dip Flash at 5:50 AM on November 14, 2018

Most likely so, but don’t say that to Grandma.
posted by darkstar at 5:55 AM on November 14, 2018 [1 favorite]

Well, "intended to go viral" in the sense that it was a deliberately produced bit of comedy, featuring overdubbing by a professional actor, who undoubtedly hoped that a wide audience would watch it, and find amusing. In the same sense, Pixar undoubtedly hopes the next entry in the "Toy Story" franchise will also go viral.

What we don't see:

"Hey, Ma! MA! C'mere and see dis fucking cat!"

GRAMMA CAT APPROACHES

"Oh no no no no...."

GRAMMA CAT IS AT THE FRONT DOOR

"OH NO NO NO AIEEEEEE MY EYES! MA! MA! MY EYESSSSSa;sdkj;lajksdf;kads;..."

MA enters.

MA (to GRAMMA CAT):

"There's a good girl. Now, come join the others. There's fresh milk for ALL of you."

I was so confused for a second with the combination of American accent and what is clearly a British house (I have no idea how I instantly knew, I just did.)

I saw this on Boing Boing, where consensus was this was a production of a British comedian. Still funny though, as it should be.

The same thing happened to me, I assume years of watching Coronation Street has implanted a subconscious recognition of a terraced house 'garden' in my brain.
