what's more upsetting: the web design or "Negronis on tap?"

Along the same lines, I used to fly out of the airport with this web site. "Last Updated 4-11-2017" The airport manager is, um, colorful.

The real content is always in the meta tags.

"Hot sauce, New Jersey Turnpike, Exit 9, But also the Parkway, "
"If you love pizza pies, and good food, and good drinks you've come to the right place! Dino's at 1524 E Olive Way in Seattle, where we prove it all night!"

Also the img alts

"My brother Anthony and his wife Barbara go back to Italy all the time and I need to go back soon too"

I just want to let everyone know if you click the "here" thats on the actual website, it's a download link of a zip folder of V4.7.2 of netscape. In case, you know, anyone ever needs an old version of Netscape. You can get it at dinostomatopie.com

Aww, I really wanted to sign the guestbook. Here's a comment from 14 year old me:

Ms_Moonlight: Hi! Great webpage. I love the space background. I have a website on Sailor Mars, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Uranus and Sailor Saturn. Pls visit!

Well, the zip folder is named that. I'm not going to download and open it just to find out it's something else. Also the Delivery and Take Out links at the top take you to a different web site. Ain't clicking on those fuckers either.

Trycaviar is a delivery/takeout order taking service for small restaraunts like Dino's. It's a legitimate service that's come around in the past few years but it's making me come to the horrifying realization that Dino's is still updating this website and it still looks like this.

I downloaded the zip, but Netscape_Communicator_4.73.exe would not run in any compatibility mode, even Windows 95, so it must be for Windows 3.1.

[IT nightmare, clicks anything at work]

Yeah I ran across that as well and was a little disappointed.

Wonder what's in the Netscape zip.

Yeah, Dino’s Tomato Pie only opened in 2016. Also, there’s no Dino.

The second-best pizzeria in Seattle.

Clearly they know how to avoid being inundated by foodie tourists, unlike that burger joint down the coast. I also note that they serve Jersey Salad; I was curious as to what that was but googling gives me two recipes, one for a sort of garden salad (from the Garden State, perhaps?) and one for a coleslaw without mayo. Maybe one is from the state and the other is from the island.

Some background: Dino's is owned by Brandon Pettit, who is also (along with his famous wife, Molly of Orangette fame) behind Delancey and the restaurant, Essex, next door in Ballard (Seattle).

Neversink is owned by someone who is friends with both of them, I believe. I know way too much about them because I have read Orangette (and Molly's books and other writing) for over a decade and used to live a block from them in Ballard when they were married, and Delancey's pizza is excellent. I never made it to Dino's but I always loved their site.

Also, Brandon is from Jersey and you can read about the opening of Dino's here, with shots of the interior and some commentary on the menu, which is all pretty nostalgic.

We wrote the copy, created the concept and the graphics, coded every in-line style and hidden easter egg (keep checking back) and made the pizzas spin. It's just one part of the identity, but we would be lying if we said it was not our favorite website we've ever worked on, or the most effective.

Inject this website and its purity into my jaded veins.

That is brilliantly meta. I’ve been to Dino’s and it’s new but delightfully old school, just the perfect pizza joint. I wouldn’t be surprised if they had negronis on tap (I had a gin martini followed by a can of Oly). I had no idea about their website, but it’s really just perfect.

Artificial purity, but I don't care it's what I crave

Dino's is one of my favorite happy hour places, being about half way between my office and apartment. $4 drafts and generously sized slices. Proving their local cred by referring to the neighborhood as "The Hill" but not "Cap Hill." Interestingly, everyone I've struck up conversations with at the bar has been from outside of Seattle.

it's at 1524 East Olive Way in SEattle. Nice.

if i was going to set out to recreate a mid-to-late 90s web page, i would hope to do it this well.

Do I need realplayer installed?

So, Real Networks not only still exists, but around five years ago have moved into a building kitty-corner from Safeco Field that has their nameplate on the building (along with King5 and others). So, every time people go to see a Mariners home game, they can be reminded of a mid-1990s technology company that no one seems to know how they survived deep into the 2010s.

Part of a trend, although I'd prefer it if web sites continued to look modern but went retro on ads/tracking/bloated libraries (which is to say, abandoned them.)

Here's one for Salazar's in Los Angeles.

I used to live down the block from Dino's. Get yourself there if you're in the area. I miss it a lot.
