They do have New Edition, but later, as the older, Mega-New Edition, in 1996. I have no idea why they don't feature them at their 1984 peak; maybe because Johnny Gill didn't join until later, and they wanted to rep all of them at once?
Their caveat notwithstanding, I think there's an awful lot of adult male singing groups in this listing passed off as boy bands, because Blackstreet, Jodeci, Silk, and Ideal are a reach! Their material seems a little too mature for a "boy band" designation.

Perhaps they're going with the highest chart position? It seems like New Edition's 1996 song "Hit Me Off," which I'm positive I've never heard before, reached #3 on the Hot 100, whereas earlier (better) NE songs like "Cool It Now" reached only #5.

Hmm... my personal definition, ironically, is that a true "boy band" does not play any instruments. They just sing, dance, and generally look pretty. If they actually play, then they're officially a "band." Therefore Hanson et al do not qualify...

I see they wisely chose to start their list after 1980 so they wouldn't have to get angry letters about listing the Beatles as a boy band.

One of the members in every band for me is blinking in and out. For Boys II Men, it's Shawn Stockman. I assume it means their efforts in the band are the most inconsequential, or maybe it represents the worst dancer?
