Oh that was gorgeous. Her exhaustion at the end was so palpable

yeah, I can't even. I get tired of being on vacation for 4.5 days. Love that the "brotherhood" of "people stupid enough to do this" means we get encouraging phone calls.

It's the best. These ppl are absolutely outlandish yet grounded as can be, they are doing this amazing thing yet they're still untouched about it, unfazed it seems. I ride. I ride these little candy-ass climbs and moan about them, a couple of days ago it was windy as can be, huge gusts in my face which makes it probably about 1/134th of what these people do, and I had to stop and rest three times, twice physically nailed, the third time just to set my mind to finish the ride.

It's easy to think that these ppl are a different breed somehow. And it's true -- they are different. But it seems that it's not their bodies but their minds that are different, that their minds form their bodies, or inform their bodies*, whatever. And yeah, your body has to have the goods -- even Michael Jordan never could hit a major league curve-ball, no matter how much he pushed himself to learn it.
*I know that if my mind informed my body that it was going to ride 1000 kliks, especially *that* 1000 kliks, I'd hurl myself off a bridge.

One thing I sure noticed -- Wilcox has her legs all bunged up. Mine are the same. I do *not* notice when they happen but I've all the time got these scratches and nicks and gouges out of my flippin' shins, and I've been known to fall over a time or two but this stuff is all. the. damn. time. so all I can figure is that it's rocks tossed back off my front tire. If you see them in the right light they look like the surface of the dang moon.

Great post. Gorgeous video. Super-cool human beings on the cutting edge, smiling through the pain.

What an inspiring video! Everyone seemed so friendly too, even within the competitors - loved the guy with the Alpine horn and the cyclist having his bottle filled with milk.

Endurance events don't have much of a gender split in results which is great, Courtney Dauwalter is similarly impressive in ultra running - amazing seeing people who have such mental strength and reserves to draw on.
