Norman Gimbel, lyricist known for Killing Me Softly and Girl from Ipanema, has died He was also well-known for work in television and film, including Laverne & Shirley, Wonder Woman, HR Puffnstuff, and Happy Days.

He actually worked on the film Pufnstuf, which is the really peculiar movie attached to the television series, which made the main villain the focus of sympathy for the plot. Mama Cass sang one of his songs in that movie, so hey!
I find it shocking that the same man who worked on that also wrote Killing Me Softly. His wikipedia page makes it look like he had a fun, productive career.
I wasn't aware of his name before now, but I certainly know a LOT of his work. Immortality takes many forms.

So soon after the death of Penny Marshall, the lyricist who wrote "we'll do it our way, yes our way, making our dreams come true" also passes... Let us not forget the lessons of Laverne & Shirley... (seriously!)

To be clear, Gimbel wrote the English lyrics to "Girl from Ipanema"; the original lyrics are by Vinicius de Moraes. But Gimbel's version is not a translation— about the only commonality is the idea of a pretty girl from Ipanema walking.
