Lizzo Round-Up -- Since her last EP release in 2016, Minneapolis Good As Hell queen Lizzo has not been silent. Since then she's spoken out a lot: Aug 2017 - Water Me; Sept 2017 - Truth Hurts; Mar 2018 - Fitness; June 2018 - Boys; Nov 2018 - Bye Bitch (Soundcloud, YouTube short link); Jan 2019 - Juice

Yessss, great round-up. I have watched the video of Juice approximately 20x this month and the song is getting great play at my gym (as is Fitness). What a great performer.

She's so awesome, great music, super attitude, just the right amount of nudge-nudge sass. StillGoodAsHell.

At some point I think it's going to become clear that Lizzo is to Prince what Janelle Monae is to Bowie.

on the one hand Lizzo is great. but on the other hand she can't be to Prince what Janelle Monae is to Bowie because Janelle Monae herself is to Prince what Janelle Monae is to Bowie.

I believe Nicole Cliffe said it best:
how did anyone survive breakups before Lizzo recorded “Good As Hell”?
Lizzo is life. Love her so much.

This is almost unnecessary to say, but if you get a chance to see her live, go. She is an unstoppable force.

Totally agree, she's amazing live.

Does she still live in Mpls though? I thought she moved to LA.

Thirding seeing her live. She plays the flute beautifully. Lizzo is a big presence on my snowboarding playlist, very good music to cruise around on.

Yesssss. “Truth Hurts” and “Fitness” were my “let’s get things done” songs of 2018.

If you like a little attitude and humor in your music I would also recommend “Wrong Bitch” and “Purse First” by Bob the Drag Queen.

Lizzo was the surprise big act at XOXO this last year. I don't think her performance is online, but here's a few minutes of her singing karaoke later that evening.

I was listening to Juice last night and my middle-aged (white, cis, hetero) husband said, "yeah, that's a bop." Which is exactly what Rolling Stone called it in their review. And no, my husband had not read the review. It's just that it's just a straight up BOP.

"Good as Hell" helped me survive 2017 but the video for Batches and Cookies is my favorite music video in the past few years.

I was unaware of Lizzo. Someone as cool as that plays the flute? Like, in front of people? Damn. I didn’t think I’d live to see it.

(Played flute for 14 years. Was never 1/10th that cool.)

Video for Batches and Cookies. A bunch of the footage was taken at State Capitol rallies in St. Paul when same sex marriage got legalized here. It was a joyous time.

Truth Hurts has one of the best opening lines to a song ever.

I saw Lizzo several years ago open for Har Mar Superstar (who deserves an FPP on his own, he is amazing) at The Turf Club in St. Paul. I can think of two times seeing an act at a small venue in jaw-agape awe of witnessing emerging greatness. One was Sia, the other was Lizzo.

Here's the live Batches and Cookies from the end of that tour.

how did anyone survive breakups before Lizzo recorded “Good As Hell”?

One measure of the progress we've made over the past 40 years is the distance between "I will Survive" and "Good as Hell".

Yes she does! IIRC, she was in her high school's marching band, and manages to sneak her flute into one song on each album...

I adore Lizzo, but let me tell you how disappointed I was to hear her "Worship Me" featured in a Weight Watchers commercial this week.
