I have been waiting with excitement for this book for like a year. Also, Marlon James lives here in Minneapolis - at least part time - which makes him a local author!

His Seven Killings is one of the best novels I have read in years. I am looking forward to this.

He was not on my radar at all until this profile; now I'm pretty curious to read Black Leopard, Red Wolf.

A comment you made a couple of years ago in a thread tipped me over into reading it - thanks for that!

I've had the pleasure of seeing him do a talk/on stage interview thing here in Toronto twice in the last couple of years, and he was talking about the fantasy world he was building. I'm thrilled it's coming to fruition.

It's rare that a single article makes me add so many books (especially by different authors) to my reading list, so thanks for this.

I had literally just finished Jemisin's Broken Earth trilogy and was casting about for a work that would carry the themes forward but, I hoped, with a more complicatedly literary style. This article was the actual next thing I read. TAKE MY MONEY, as they say.

(Before I RTFA: Request for a Jia Tolentino tag. I’ll read pretty much anything she writes.)

Aha. Here are those two talks that I mentioned:

Marlon James | Feb 18, 2016 | Appel Salon

Marlon James | April 17, 2018 | Appel Salon (w/ David Chariandy, author of the very excellent Brother).

Black Leopard, Red Wolf -- the title of this book, no fewer than nine paragraphs deep in the article. Yet, you cannot even see the article without seeing Game of Thrones. Surprisingly, they had his name, Marlon James, in the article title.

It's from the profile section of the magazine, where they do deep dives on an individual. The article is intended to be about him, not about any one of his books. It's the framing on this post makes it seem otherwise. I don't think he would mind though, since as he says, he's been "trying to sell out for years."
