this is considerably different from what happened in the Alucard fanfic I read. I like it very much.

Ohh, I read this when it came out, it's such a joy !

When Medium is back up, I strongly encourage folks to check out other stuff from Zeal, they do great work.

Yeah, Medium's down for me too. It was up when I posted the story, just went down recently seems like.

It turns out Dracula's downfall was narrowmindedness, hubris, and a penchant to buy every sword he sees.

I kept trying to work out who 'Arivle' was and it was honestly kind of distracting.

I’ve probably sunk over 100 hours of my life into this game. For me, the cognitive dissonance of this piece was not in the trans twist but in having the monsters presented as relatable characters. I mean, it’s Castlevania. The only means of interaction with anything is violence and maybe a cutscene. In that context, a life changing conversation with a Frozen Shade is relevatory. The whole piece just pulsates with subtext. Brilliant.

The author was also the DM of this actual-play RPG podcast.

I am probably not the target audience for this, because I don't know what game this is or who any of the characters are. But I loved it! The author's voice is distinctive and the main character is so appealing.

I’ve never played Castlevania, but I loved this! Thank you for sharing it. I got similar vibes from it as from merritt k’s Internet Murder Revenge Fantasy, which sadly seems not to be available any more.
