In 2015 and 2016 the TV show Archer put together insanely complex scavenger hunts for fans. Walkthroughs (2015, 2016) and behind the scenes (2015, 2016).

DANGER ZONE!

Every time I read about ARGs like this, I am amazed that:
  • People remain convinced it is solvable long enough to suffer through the solution
  • The designers managed to sneak this stuff into real content
  • The designers managed to make it super difficult and obscured, but still solvable

Also, the complexity in the scavenger hunts are NUCKING FUTZ. Seriously, I would love to see the "development map" for these scavenger hunts.

Google should probably use something like this as a recruiting tool, but the people who figured it out probably already work there.

That's INSANE. Even seeing all the steps laid out it seems crazy. How anyone could connect all the dots without already knowing what they were supposed to be doing staggers the imagination.

I too, am STUNNED that ordinary people were able to figure this all out.

I am CRAZY smart and I could barely follow the walkthrough.

A lot of ARGs seem designed on the infinite monkeys principle, where an answer can be converged on given enough time and people. What you're not hearing about are the maybe thousands of people involved in maybe tens or hundreds of thousands of dead ends.

That's the part that amazes me too. Although I guess once you see the numbers in various places in the episodes and that the images and videos need to be altered in some way you would have another idea about how to solve the next clue.

Or maybe the ilovebees group were the Halo ARG players and the A.I. Players called themselves something else. I'm sorry - my memory is failing me here.

Kalessin -- IIRC the A.I. ARG group called themselves "Cloudmakers" after (I think) an AI embedded in a boat belonging to one of the ARG's characters. Ilovebees was definitely the Halo ARG.

I never even heard of this, but my main takeaway is that I'm not very smart.
