Welcome to The Treeographer

Nick Rowan became interested in the history of trees during his time as a woodworker. He began to see the everyday trees we all pass without really thinking about in a different light. That's why he started The Treeographer.
Welcome to The Treeographer, a collection of the true histories of significant or symbolic trees from around the world. The stories cover a wide variety of topics, including culture, history, science, religion, and more.
Also, there are still a few days left to vote for European Tree of the Year!

Thank you for this post. Since the new year I've started getting serious about photographing birds... which brought the realization that I know very little about trees and vegetation. If anyone has other recommended links about trees and flora, especial in the Pacific Northwest, I would be very grateful.

Oh, this is cool and lovely! And I look forward to exploring it.

I'm just a tiny bit disappointed, however. I had thought it would be about trees that he sees in his surroundings every day and documenting them across stretched of time, individual trees tracked.

But this is really amazing, and I look forward to digging around in it! Thanks for posting!

Treerific! Happy to see the tree that owns itself (Athens GA) on the front page. There is a contact page where you can give him suggestions for trees. Oh, boy, do I have a few. I'm thinking I'll start with Keffer Oak in VA (from a site listing lots more) and the Indian Signal Tree in OH.

California (Save the Redwoods League) has support/dedication for trees and groves.

https://www.savetheredwoods.org/donate/dedicate-a-redwood-grove-or-tree/

I worked in parks and saw many ceremonies for those who had passed and had a tree(s) dedicated in their name.

(It became a problem when scavengers started removing/stealing the bronze dedication plaques to recycle--ugh).

Not sure how I feel about the $ required for a dedication though....
