4 Year Old Mic'd up at Hockey (SLYT)

Much cuter and funnier than the pros.

God I remember those hockey practices. The “one-two, one-two” of trying to learn to use both feet. You could see him using just one foot to push. Baby hockey players are cute.

This basically how I sound every morning when I wake up, especially the "let's nap" and "it's ok, I'm ok" parts.

When I went camping with my friend she thought there was a baby bear in the camp raiding the kitchen. Nope, just me waking up grumbling and making weird noises.

Now I understand why little kids get along with old people. We have the same self-talk. Our legs are tired and we need to pee.

When I'm god emperor of the NSF I'm going to commission a bunch of scientists to study how much of the time 4 year old hockey players spend up on skates versus on their knees, or lying down, or in some other failure mode. I bet it's a minority of the time.

I would like a four-year-old as herald to announce my imminent arrival everywhere with, "Watch out, everyone!"

I would have thought that a few lessons without all of the gear and a stick might be in order to learn how to skate first. Is that not normal? Is skating gendered in Canada such that boys are expected to wear a bunch of hockey kit and girls are not?

This was lovely.

Now I want to go to hockey training. Would they let me train with the kids, do you think?

asok, no hockey is not gendered like that in my experience with it. My son played against girls all the way through until he quit at age 16. There is a girls' league in our area too which many of the girls in the mixed leagues switched to once checking was introduced which was also the age when the difference is size and strength becomes more pronounced. Regarding skating skills, kids come into hockey with every level of skating ability, so coaches just work on all of it. The only way to learn to skate is to get out there and skate.

asok, there were definitely girls on the ice in that video. Some of them were wearing pink which is a little bit sigh-inducing, but they were there in full hockey kit falling down and not paying attention just like the boys.
