That's a good piece. The description of teenage mithanthropy, cloaked as it is in fear and piercing vulnerability, was so on point.

We had Perkins, similarly open 24 hours and similarly offering bottomless tea or coffee. My group would get an order of fries for the table and everyone would get a drink. I'm sure the wait staff loathed us.

There's something about growing up in a place that doesn't matter, like, you will never make anything of yourself there, and how can you imagine leaving? I am having some feelings. (I left)
