That was interesting, but now I want to keep reading about fashion dating, like a long New Yorker piece.

That was a great article, thanks for posting it.

Like Margalo Epps I would really like to find a long form article.

I would adore a long form article, but until then I recommend everyone watch her show A Stitch In Time.

Oh, she's the Stitch in Time lady? I love that show!

My underwear is usually the newest and most up-to-date part of my outfit, so it would definitely date me more than anything else.

This is great. I also wished the article had been longer.

An old habit of mine -- not one of the healthier ones -- was to get sucked into reading descriptions of unidentified persons at the Doe Network. (The website now seems to be suspended; I don't know what the deal is there, but I hope they can continue their good work.) They don't show graphic death photos, but they do show photos of clothing, many of which bear unspeakable stains.

It often strikes me how many of the Does, especially the young ones, wear clothing that would have invited (in its day) an immediate value judgment -- "cheap," "trashy," or at best perhaps just "hippie." It's a reminder that there are probably people who thought that this person was asking for whatever they got. And then, of course, there are the blankets and pajamas of child Does. They often seem to have been dressed for bed. The cartoon characters, especially the recent ones, the prints and designs that some children are still walking around in -- Jesus.

Oh god the baby in the drawer. It sounded from the context that the baby had been in the drawer from the 60s? Oh my god what is the story behind that?

That's a thought that is hard to put down. But it may be a very old story. Maybe she didn't have access to contraception or abortion, but in any case, she didn't want the baby and her circumstances looked impossible; perhaps they were. Some cases of neonatal infanticide involve women in such a state of deep denial that they don't even think of the baby as real when it's born. I felt a lot of sadness for her and for these adults who learned they had a sibling that they never knew about.

or maybe it was a SIDS case and she couldn't let the baby go... man that's gonna stay with me.

Fascinating!

I am expecting the BBC to very quickly roll out a 6 episode series about a fashion expert who works with police on cold cases. Also, in the States, Dick Wolf has presumably already instructed the SVU writers room to get on this and we'll have a weird infanticide and fashion episode.

When they never got back to the baby, I sort of assumed it was a stillbirth. But I guess we don't know. That definitely deserved some resolution!

Very interesting article. I would love to hear a longer interview with her.
