And the answer is no more 2019 than this.

an aquafresh brand-parody tumblr that was posting avengers spoilers was reportedly permabanned for hate speech, but it was actually because the account was tied to a toy story-themed community-led nazi purge
Tweets Brian Feldman. For an explanation of this baffling sentence you have to read his Intelligencer post.

The last sentence of that Intelligencer post is really depressing.

Yesterday I witnessed three young men standing by a busy street holding large signs containing Avenger spoilers. I don't recall any Aquafresh references. I live in a college town and I'm accustomed to seeing trolls in real life, but their tactics were new to me.

What?

Is this what my classical-music-only Mormon grandpa felt like when I first brought my boombox over as a young teenager and started blasting Depeche Mode and Run DMC?

The last sentence is both really depressing and a sick sick burn. Fuck Twitter.

I'm increasingly glad I bothered to go and formally delete my Twitter account, because fuck Jack Dorsey.

Nice to see them doing something and would agree with Aquafresh guy that it was worth doing, but sheesh, yeah, all of them should be doing a lot more sooner.

And fuck Twitter and Dorsey, obvs.

Perfect fodder for an episode of Reply All.

The tweet is purposely baroque. An internet troll was banned from Tumblr and it was initially assumed that this was because he had posted Endgame spoilers, but it turned out it was because he was squatting on Nazi-themed Tumblr URLs, supposedly to prevent actual Nazis from claiming them. You can all comprehend that perfectly well.

There! I have ruined the fun.

Now let us recite the Litany Against Twitter

I must not tweet.

In news from the social media platforms that actually would ban spoiler-posters rather than Nazis, people have started playing the Game of Thrones soundtrack while being harassed by the alt-right, assuming that YouTube will come down much more heavily on incidental copyright infringement than on loudly encouraging young white men to enact violence on minority communities.

Banning nazis must not become a memefied joke, else the impact and seriousness of their offensiveness will be diffused and mitigated by this strategy. ~ woc on twitter

According to a Tumblr blog documenting the roundup, “many people did not read the rules or did not care, and would take any deactivated blog, or make custom URLs just to participate. Because of this the creator dismantled the woodysroundup.” The original members of Woody’s Roundup, subsequently switched from Woody avatars to SpongeBob SquarePants avatars.

At some point I'm not sure if I'm reading news of things that are set in the known universe anymore.
