Unrelatedly, I stand firmly in the "Into the Unknown" camp.

Greg is the anti-Milo. A science-punk who went to do science and isn't just a boy whining about girls.
Good to see them still standing strong.

I have had a rough couple of weeks. I really needed this kind of angry, intelligent, passionate response to the world we're in. Thanks for posting; purchased!

Pretty hilarious all the salty tears on social media by people shocked SHOCKED that Bad Religion is anti-Trump, and anti the GOP’s latest bullshit in general.

Wait. Isn't the whole point of Bad Religion their politics? How could you be into this band not have a clue what their politics would be?

Oh I know - it's the kids/grandkids of the people who angrily stormed out of CSNY reunion shows when Neil Young had the audacity to play anti-GWB songs. How dare the band that performed "Ohio" be political!

Is...is this a real thing?

How can one know literally anything about Bad Religion, and not just know that they would be anti-Trump?

Yeah a lot of people are keyed into the energy of the songs without paying attention to the contents.

If you think this is weird, you might be surprised by the number of Rage Against The Machine fans who were unaware of their politics.

I just finished The Darkening: The Christian Destruction of the Classical World by Catherine Nixey, which I heartily recommend. The cover of this album is quite appropriate. As the Christians rose in power they started to destroy the temples of the Roman and Greek gods. The first thing they attacked were the statues, which they believed were haunted by demons. To eliminate the demons they would behead the statue, and if they couldn’t do that they would break off the nose and carve a cross into the forehead. (That’s where all the noses went.) Age of Unreason? That’s what this book is about. How it started. And an under current in the book seems to suggest it’s happening once more. The song linked above says it all. Thanks for the recommendation.

Data point: It turns out that the guy who introduced me to Bad Religion had parents who kept nazi memorabilia in the basement. About as soon as I realized I had a political consciousness, we went different ways. Last I heard, he married a heiress and now works in biglaw. I take some amount of solace that he managed to point me to music that got me connected to the liberal/intellectual community. I almost went to law school explicitly to counterbalance him, but, I looked at the employment picture and decided to do software instead, heh...

Greg Graffin is the college professor I always *expected* to have. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement.

I’ve been lucky enough to see them three or four times over the last fifteen years when they’ve come to Tokyo. Always fantastic shows, a shockingly little amount of banter, just song after song.

One of the better moments was a double bill with NoFX where, as an encore, members of both bands just played Bad Religion songs from the 80-85 era for about half an hour. The thing is, they’re one of the few bands this old still putting out good albums. Looking forward to giving this a listen.

I’ve had No Substance on heavy rotation in my car for the last few months. I'm looking forward to this.
