“It’s as though that was all I needed to see”

A week ago, Transworld Skateboarding released DAEWON, a documentary about the life and 30-year career of legendary skateboarder Daewon Song. It's free to watch on YouTube.

The video is a celebration of Daewon's unique skating style, humble personality and contribution to skate culture. It all started when Rodney Mullen saw a 14-year-old Daewon backside 180 a hydrant in Gardena:
“Just how he moved — his response, and how agile he was […] There was just some particular poise where… it’s as though that was all I needed to see. It was that striking. When you know you’re looking at something different”.
Plus similarly awestruck commentary from Mark Gonzales, Steve Rocco, Marc Johnson and a LULzy bit from Torey Pudwill.

If you want more, his Instagram is also a real treat.

OMG I remember watching some skate video from back in the day that had Daewon Song in it and he was by far the most impressive skater on that video. Must have been like 1994 ish?

Gonna hafta watch this later!

I've been following Daewon on instagram for about a year now and it's such a joy when a quick video of an insane trick shows up on my feed. He rules.

I'm not a skater and never really heard of Daewon, but I love watching skate videos and this is pretty great.

A few different subjects in this video talk about how he has massive technical chops, but they don't want to see him do the really technical stuff, they just want to see him do simple things - My brain keeps circling around that.
