Joshua Dudley Greer is a photographer based in Atlanta, GA. His new book 'Somewhere Along The Line' distills a road trip of seven years and 100,000 miles.

"America" is one of my favorite songs. I especially love the recording from the Central Park concert, when they hit the line "counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike" and the whole crowd cheers, lifting up "and they've all come to look for America" with this huge swell of emotion. It's magical.

I've taken a 2 week road trip from Seattle to Atlanta/Miami the past five years, I've got a ton of cool pictures...
But these are accurate, and I enjoyed them.

Those images were haunting and that discussion was the most enjoyable cultural criticism I have read in a while.

Out in the middle of nowhere? Get out of the car. Hitchhike. Someplace where you might be stuck for an hour or ten. While you're waiting, look it over, talk to people. Sitting in that 'sweet chariot, coming for to carry me home' -ought- to feel isolating. Get out on the edge of town. Listen to the insects, to the buzz of the afternoon, drop into that empty eatery and visit with the cook.
Or at least drive off the damned freeway and see what it is you were planning on buzzing by, hurrying to stay safely inside your 'life'. Get out of your plans for a time and disembark into the real, everyday world. History is all around you. Before you do, read that story by that fella who walked from coast-to-coast a few years back. His biggest problem was wearing out his shoes.

Very nice work. I can't imagine how much work it was to winnow seven years of work down to the number of images that fit into a book.
