Ah, it's a Tower of the Sorceror-alike.

The biggest conceptual shift in these kinds of games is to not think of monsters as bags of XP that have a varying amount of risk. Instead, think of them as a way to trade health for XP, health being a resource you can only get through potions.

As your level goes up, tackling certain enemies costs less health per non-lethal strike. They're still worth the same amount of XP, and a key part of optimising your resource use is considering which 20 enemies you need to kill and how much health that's going to cost you.

The weird thing about this one is that, unlike most Tower of the Sorceror-alikes, it's possible to freely grind, which kind of breaks the puzzle.

Yeah - after you've beaten it once it opens up a New Game+ mode with both permadeath and grinding restrictions, which is tighter. There, you can still grind somewhat, but it's not worth it because you get 0 XP from enemies that can't damage you.

In either mode, the balance falls apart in the endgame, but other than that I quite liked it.

I love Friday Flash Fun. I wish I was at a less-public computer so that I could slack without being seen!

What am I overlooking? I appear to need 4 to clear what I think is a very late-game room, but I've only found 2 . Is there some way I'm supposed to re-use the from earlier in the game?

The missing items are hidden in the rest of the tower in a way you can't find until the late game.

I'm kind of stuck with trying to get the boots. I think I accidentally flipped all the switches but I shouldn't have. There's no way to reset those switches and barriers?

Edit: ahhh you have to go from below to get them. I figured it out!
