Teen Girl Activists Take On Skeptical Boys and Annoying Buzzwords -- NPR interviewed ten young activists at the Girl Up 2019 Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C., this week. Girl Up (official YouTube videos) is a campaign founded by the U.N. foundation that promotes activism for 13- to 22-year-olds to work for the health, safety and education of girls.

As I got older and sicker and more tired and less able to fight, it makes me so incredibly happy to know these young women are out there.

Such wisdom and heroism should always be heard. I’m older now, and can see how valuable these young women are, as I remember my youth and my involvement in standing against hate and discord. I know what it meant to me then when I realized that someone actually wanted to hear what I had to say. And now at my age, I see even clearer how important our youth are in defining our country and our hopes for the future. Congrats ladies. Your courage abounds.
