enter a world of pupy where jumping and digging are as easy as pressing some buttons on a keyboard, a world where forest animals will give you moonstones in exchange for completing quests, a world where everything is okay and spike pits and lava can't hurt you. posted by vibratory manner of working (23 comments total) 19 users marked this as a favorite

I love everything about this and immediately played all the way through. Thank you so much.

For anyone who gets two minutes in and then thinks they've irrevocably fucked themselves, you can push up + jump to come out somewhere randomly higher on the map.

Argle bargle where are the dang apples.

Also I don't know if the way I solved the katana quest was cheating but I don't care, either.

After yesterday's game post, I have to ask before I click: Is consumption of brainmeat part of the gameplay?

No, nothing of the sort. There's only one quest that involves even slightly harming another creature, and even that is very mild:
spoilerYou have to make a thief touch water, which, as everyone knows, thieves do not like to do.

And that one's even optional.

I seem to be overlooking some sort of food-item. Any hints?

If it's what I think you mean, then there's a ghost who mentions the item in their dialog. Use what they tell you as a clue.

Is there some way to simply drop an item without hurling it across the screen?

Am I imagining it or is some of the music here borrowed from Cave Story?

Has anyone else bothered to stack up so many long-tail kitties that the balloon puzzle automatically solves itself? You really, really shouldn't. Seriously. It's kind of amusing what happens when you do though.

Also, it's apparently possible to send the thief into orbit.

Okay yeah, I'm basically QAing this game right now.

Oh man I didn't think of trying to get more than one long-tail kitty.

I did prove to myself that it was actually possible to solve the katana puzzle. It's incredibly tedious to do so, and I half expected the block to not actually trigger the switch once I got it there, which would have also been hilarious, but it did.

I also spent awhile with the super star and dug out every piece of dirt everywhere in the game. Missed the blocks directly under the block puzzle gate, because I hadn't figured that one out yet, but other than that it was pretty satisfying.

Mod note: About the spoiler tag - it's not a Mefi-specific thing. But not all browsers treat it as intended, so please don't use it for big spoilers thinking they'll be safely hidden -- they'll end up in plaintext for some folks.

> Has anyone else bothered to stack up so many long-tail kitties that the balloon puzzle automatically solves itself? You really, really shouldn't. Seriously. It's kind of amusing what happens when you do though.

What happens when you solve the balloon puzzle is a long-tailed kittey(sic) drops to the floor under the last balloon popped. If you solve the puzzle twice with the same last balloon popped each time, a second kitty will appear either on top of or superimposed on the first kitty; you can jostle them into stacking by standing in front of them and jumping. As long as you keep solving the puzzle, you keep accumulating kitties.

Here's the fun part: Kitties also pop balloons. So if you solve the puzzle often enough without moving the kitties, the kitties will pop any balloons that collide with them when the puzzle resets. It is possible to solve the puzzle so many times that the screen is full of kitties which solve the puzzle instantly.

And here's the fun bug: The puzzle resets every time you touch the ground or land on top of a character... anywhere in the world. So as you wander the world, you land on something, the puzzle resets, is instantly solved, another kitty drops, you land on something, the puzzle resets... soon there are thousands of unaccounted-for sprites, the game becomes unsolvable and/or you've broken the browser tab.

Here's a composite screenshot of about as far as I can stack the long tailed kitties before the game begins crashing.
