Today's Document from the (US) National Archives at Tumblr. Daily featured documents from today in history from the holdings of the U.S. National Archives. If you haven't seen it, it's delightful. Does what it says on the tin. [Previously on the blue: Public Library Tumblrs]

I have been following it for a while. Unlike, say Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day, it doesn't do pointed subtext; just random documents with historical or factual summary. I was finally prompted to share the link because today's summary tickled me:

In this [courtship] letter to Lyndon B. Johnson, Lady Bird Taylor writes that she is thrilled he is sending her a book about Nazism, and she evaluates the book Roosevelt and His America by [Bernard] Faÿ. She says that she is in a happier mood. She is delighted over the prospect of receiving Johnson’s picture and she hopes to receive it before her trip to Dallas so that she can show it to her friends there. She plans to have a picture made for him while in Dallas.

Having read Caro’s LBJ books, all I can think is: oh Lady Bird, RUN the other way!
