Isn't the London tube mouse meant to be a distinct subspecies as well?

Between that article and this map it suggests the Mouskewitzes probably never even made it as far as the tramp steamer in Hamburg. Another childhood story spoiled.

I went to Wikipedia to find out what even constitutes a subspecies, but that stuff is complicated when you start digging.
