Well, you certainly are in urgent need of something better, and from a Danish (Social Democratic) PoV, Sanders seems to have quite reasonable plans, values, and opinions.

However, what are the chances that even a Democratic majority Congress would permit the reforms necessary to upend the USian status quo?

I think the trick would be to get things done fast. A president is never so powerful as when first elected (assuming a majority in Congress).
