Canada is the porn capital of the world?

I wonder what tsyndicate.com is, and also I'd like to check out the fake MS phishing site, but am too scared.

The "fake" Microsoft site isn't phishing-related at all, it's what MS runs Office 365 and most of their login services through. A ten second WHOIS query verifies that. Makes me wonder if the rest of this shouldn't be taken with a grain of salt.

tsyndicate.com also appears to be CloudFlare, a well-known and well-regarded web infrastructure provider.

There's a sort of nostalgia about ranking website URLs, as if the mobile Internet world does not exist. Tik Tok is invisible in this report, as is WeChat. And products like TaoBao and WhatsApp and Instagram look much smaller than they are. Ignoring mobile apps greatly biases this report to Western users. I mean sure, it's pedantically a correct listing of websites, but no longer of Internet properties.

On the mobile flip side: what's up with ampproject.org? Is that the AMP hosting sites use if they don't want to be captured by Google?

Your top 100 list sucks.

Seriously, it makes me nostalgic for suck.com and a time when slashdot wasn’t entirely overrun with reflexive libertarians.

Astounded to learn that Pornhub is Canadian, considering the depiction of an erect penis was illegal in most of Canada until the late 80s. Canada customs was still targeting shipments of lesbian/gay books and magazines (for confiscation) at the border into the 00s.

Astounded to learn that Pornhub gets almost ten times as many visits as Fox News.

so, the so-called Western World is basically Google-Facebook-Youtube ... and then everything starts atomizing from there, depending on one's interests, prejudices, predilections, compulsions, needs.

I suppose I'm glad to see that Wikipedia is marginally more popular than Twitter ... and Pornhub for that matter. But if this was a city, they'd still be found in more or less the same suburb. Their kids would go to the same schools.

"Click to buy this as a poster! click 404, that page cannot be found!"

I really like the site (really!), but it's mildly ironic that the part of The Visual Capitalist where they take money is broken.

I also find it interesting that there don't seem to be BIG scans of the Crass posters available for free*. Not exactly Anarchy.

* I didn't look that hard.

Exceptions to Google’s dominance can be found in China (Baidu) and Russia (Yandex), where homegrown search engines have managed to capture the domestic market.

One scrappy competitor, DuckDuckGo, is slowly gaining prominence
- but no mention of Bing. Ouch.

In case you're wondering why Tumblr is shown here linked to Yahoo!, it's cos this article was posted on August 7 2019, five days before it was sold to Automattic Inc.

I’m assuming Zombo.com is a much larger circle outside the graphic, encompassing all the other circles.

Bing is there. Number 23. A little after reddit.

but no mention of Bing. Ouch.

Especially considering they provide the bulk of the results to DDG

I thought pornhub and xtube were owned by the same company. They aren't.
