Thank you for this - I went in with the unfair expectation that these would be... well thoughtless? I did video production in the very bad old days when the free stuff had a sound one would almost describe as self-aware: competent enough to show you could trust the producer to fit a target mood but with an edge of "for placement only" that - perhaps my imagination at work - subtly suggested you should really consider paying someone instead.

This was how cheap instructional videos found a very particular look and sound that came to mirror and eventually unintentionally ape cheap pre-internet pornography. And vice versa.

(These aren't that.)

This is pretty cool. I've been very pleased with Kevin McLeod's stuff at Incompetech (royalty-free, $0 with attribution, flat fee if you want to use it without attribution). But poking around that site, I can see his sit, I can see that he's now working with filmmusic.io, who have quite good free text-to-speech generation.
