Hey, here's MS Paint in Javascript.

Includes little-known original features like black and white mode and numpad brush resizing.

This is completely usable on my phone, which makes me realize I've never drawn anything before on a smartphone.

This is a fun nostalgia trip!

It also allows you to directly upload an illustration to Imgur (and then delete it), which is somehow what is impressing me at the moment.

That, and how responsive it is. No lag in cursor change or image drawing lag. Very fun!

"render history as gif" is an amazing option.
I'm going to try to remember to look up how to do this on a desktop!

Not all that long ago this would've quickly turned into a crazed ranting megathread about all evils microsoft, how far the evil empire has fallen.

Still time to turn it into a crazed ranting megathread about Javascript (ECMAScript).

I can't get multi-user to work. Because that would sure be fun and crazy!

Literally last night I was telling my 15 year old that JS isn't a "real language" and this summer he should work on learning to code in something like Kotlin or Swift.

Tonight I should probably teach him the valuable lesson that Dad is not always right.

Definitions of a "real" programming language:

1 - is it Turing complete? if yes, then real
2 - will someone pay you money to program in it? if yes, then real

I'm impressed that even the help system works.

The author also created a replica of the whole dang Windows 98 desktop which is amazing.

This blows away my expectations for how well a Javascript application can perform. This guy's got chops.

I never could figure out how this kind of app worked. I could scribble some random lines and that was it.

I just loaded an MP3 from my desktop and played it in Winamp, complete with reading ID3 tags and Milkdrop visualization.

I am in awe.

See also: windows93.net, which is linked in the Network Neighborhood. I have to stop now, or I'll never get any work done.

OK, one last link: Bananamp! Look at all those MOD files! Listen to all those MOD files! (That direct link to Bananamp may not play music directly, so you'll have to close the "app" and re-open it.)

The Windows 98 desktop emulation is a classic and is clearly the genesis of the standalone MSPaint app.

I was dumbfounded when I just went to the Internet Explorer app and it sent me to the Google home page via the internet archive (yes, of course!). The search suggestions were things I have definitely searched for... but not recently. Somehow this tapped into a reservoir of ancient search history! What sorcery is this?

This is pretty cool, though it hates my wacom tablet on my windows machine. (Or, more likely, it's one more victim in the wacom/"tablet mode" war windows 10 machines are perpetually engaged in.)

Impossibly fast, as if it's not implemented in javascript but ... something not javascript. /scratches head.

Look at all those MOD files! Listen to all those MOD files!

Just like listening to actual mods in 1993, it's super inaccurate on some songs.

What sorcery is this?

Less impressive sorcery, to my way of thinking, than this.
