Atomic Heart [YouTube][Game Trailer] [10 min. gameplay][45 min. preview] “I have only the vaguest idea what’s going on in the brand new trailer for Atomic Heart, but I am very much in love with it. The wonderful Soviet-themed immersive sim we first saw last year has come a long way since we first got a look at it, and had a few controversies too—accusations of faked gameplay footage and managerial incompetence. It was otherwise pretty quiet. Last month’s 45-minute gameplay slice was the first we’d seen in a long while. [...] Look, at this point, I don’t even really care if the game comes out. This imagery is great. I’m entertained nonetheless. This trailer contains multiple brilliant things, in no particular order: A flying worm creature that is a mining drill. A creepy robot saying hello. A floppy frog robot-ball. A cute lil murderous waddling mining drill robot. Spinning centrifuge things that are doing god knows what.” [via: PC Gamer]

It feels like Bioshock, Fallout, Nier Automata & Metro 2033 all had a baby together. I'm totally here for this game and it's aesthetic.

meta: Could we make it a habit to include a list of supported platforms, when available, in posts about new games? And in the tags? Trailers and reviews sometimes bury this info, or have incomplete listings.

(It looks like Atomic Heart is initially coming to Windows and PS4, though the developer site also has an Xbox One logo at the bottom.)

Capcom’s Strider also rocked the future-SSR theme :)

SOMA also has some of this vibe. There's so much of this kind of aesthetic/art in gaming. I suspect much of it is influenced by Tarkovsky's Solaris and Stalker.

Had not heard of this, watched the trailer, and I am definitely buying this. 100% agree that this is Bioshock by way of Tartovsky’s Stalker and I am dying to dive into it!

Having watched the 45 min preview (with English subtitles) I have to say the proposed game mechanic regarding the resurrection of 'defeated' enemies, 'bees' and cameras is unlike anything I have heard of before. It seems to mean that the combat and strategy would be different every time you respawn. The proposed connection of all of the surveillance in the game logic would require a great deal of stealth, as the game would get more difficult for any player that tried to muscle their way through. The proposed ability to hack the defence system, to get it to work for the player is another great idea that may be too complex to include, considering how small the team seems to be.
For example, all of the art and design is generated by one person, as far as I can tell; Artem Galeev.
