Yo La Tengo 2020 WFMU All-Request Marathon TODAY

Yo La Tengo are once again playing requests for pledges beginning at 3pm US EST TODAY (Sat March 07) on WFMU. Every year, Yo La Tengo perform requests live on-air in exchange for pledges, to help keep freeform noncommercial radio station WFMU (91.1 FM in Jersey City, NJ) on the air. This year is no exception. They will begin playing at 3pm US EST today, and will be playing listener requests for several more hours.

trashflow has been doing the annual YLT/WFMU post for quite few years now, though its getting a little late in the day and I didn't want to tempt fate. All thanks go to him for providing the template!

Will they be reading this thread for requests? I want to hear "The Night The Lights Went Out in Georgia".

No, looks like requests are for closers only.

Hooray! I've been looking forward to this for months.

"Louie, Louie".

Extra credit: Play it like Black Flag.

WFMU is a cultural treasure. They have my support and deserve yours.

I am actually heading out to NYC from Minneapolis next week, well maybe, given the current health issues, but the plan is to trek to Jersey City on Wednesday night to volunteer during the Wheel of Fate episode of Seven Second Delay. If this all pans out, it's going to be exciting to finally see the studios after all these years of being a fan.

Thanks for the reminder. I missed the last couple years. Listening to it live is the only way to go.

(800) 989-9368 is the number to call, and you can make a song request with a $100 or more pledge. Make sure to say, I am from Metafilter, and wheelieman sent me!

Live, and extremely green, playlist updating here.

"Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" was a great example of what I love about these shows. It starts off as a goof and then you watch them make it their own in real time.

I need to figure out how to apply my swag for life pledge to request a song. My wife would kill me if I sent them another $100, but I really want to hear them play Art Lover.

I really like the swag this year, especially the hoodie.

I'd estimate that 70% of my T-Shirts at this point are WFMU marathon shirts. I have to get rid of an old one for each new one that I get each year now.

Yeah, I was just wondering if the swag for life counts. I do pledge over $100/year -- can I make a request?

They used to let you donate ahead of time and then apply portions of your donation to drawings throughout the marathon (and to this too, presumably), but I think they quit doing that last year. Not 100% sure about that.

Yeah, I've donated in advanced via the webform, but I think you have to select Todd's show and leave your request as a comment. That said, I did that today and am still a-waitin' (probably gonna get stuck in the medley).

That was one of the best requests yet, neroli.

Heh heh.

“This is supposed to be ‘If Six Was Nine’, but close enough,” as they go into “Hey Joe.”

"Baby's On Fire" was my wife's request. We wanted to see if they would say "any idiot can know that" or "any idiot can see that".

I laughed out loud at "That's really distracting, guys."

Nice integration of "Runaway Train." I cackled.
