Gavin Webber makes cheese. Gavin Webber makes cheese in Australia. Gavin Webber makes Parmigiano Reggiano in Australia. This makes Italians very angry.

I don't know why "Italians mad at food" is one of my favorite genres of comment, but it is

Almost as good as that little town in china many years ago that renamed itself to "Usa".

(did not keep that name for long :-)

The video creator doesn't claim to be making "Parmigiano Reggiano"; on the contrary his video says "Parmesan style cheese".

It's sad because the video itself is nice and informative and could have been posted by itself without the unnecessary trolling the OP decided to add.

for more in the same family of youtube comments, see Hungarian people big mad about everyone else in the world, including other Hungarians, making gulyás/goulash wrong.

I didn't read the comments. I really enjoyed the meditative quality of the cheese making. This is the thing I needed in these times, so thank you.

There are actually comments from Italians where they praise his cheese-making efforts. I think we can all agree that a guy making cheese and sharing how to make that cheese with everyone is cool, and a lot of his commenters get that.

That's entirely different. Nobody minds where in the world you make goulash, as long as you don't go around adding peas and carrots and turnips and so forth. If you want to make a stew flavoured with paprika, go for it! I promise you Hungarians aren't going to be upset. But if you call your confection goulash you will confuse the Hungarians you serve it to and they will wish to ask you many questions in very penetrating voices.

Reminds me of the time I saw a $5 bottle of wine in the US labeled "A Hearty California Burgundy." Which is probably the last crime for which one will be legally drawn and quartered in Europe...

The EU system of geographical indications does make sense sometimes (like I should probably not be allowed to sell my toilet hooch as Armagnac), but it's crazy bureaucratic, and it has some ludicrous effects. For example, the Austrian/Bavarian word for spiced tea with rum is "Jagatee" (Hunter's tea). But God help you if you call it that outside of Austria, because Austria called dibs (EC Regulation 110/2008, Annex III, No. 32). Yay! And who cares, call it something else then. But yeah, Europeans do get hilariously territorial about this kind of thing.

The interestingness is the primary reason I posted it. The angry Italians (who were angry regardless of whether he properly called it imitation Parmesan/Parmesan style) were the reason it came to the world's attention.
