Live From Home

Ben Gibbard is playing solo live shows from isolation in his home every day at 7pm EST for "the next few weeks or so".
Live now here.
First show was yesterday, located here.
Hey Everyone,

I know you are all really freaked out right now. I am too. And while I’m proud that we’re all doing the necessary things at the moment to help flatten the curve, I know it has left us all incredibly isolated.

But because we’re all going through this nightmare together we are quite literally NOT alone. Our lives and stories are all linked, maybe more now than they have ever been.

Be it with DCFC, Postal Service, or solo I have always been grateful for the honor you have bestowed upon us by choosing to congregate en masse around our music. Some of you have traveled great distances and/or shelled out large sums of money to see us play and that has never been lost on me. So in this crazy and unprecedented time, I’d like to return the favor by coming to YOU.

For the next few weeks I will be playing songs everyday from my home studio. We will be streaming on YouTube at 4pm PST daily. We’re still working out the details but I’m hoping to take some requests and maybe even have a guest or two stop by digitally. The first show will be tomorrow. It will assuredly be a little wonky and glitchy but we’re gonna do our best.

See You Tomorrow.

xo

I have heard other musicians are doing this too (John Legend, Dropkick Murphies) so please feel free to share any live from home stuff you know of!

I just dropped in to say that when the homeless day center here in Seattle where I work and provide heroin treatment needed some emergency funds, Ben Giibbard, without even being asked, organized and performed a show which kept us afloat. He had always attended our fundraisers and given generously but couldn’t this year because of his tour schedule so he did the show instead. Just letting the Mefites here know what kind of heart this man has.

Towards the end of day 1, he does a cover of Radiohead's Fake plastic trees. Well worth the listen

An achingly beautiful, topical song from Joey Burns of Calexico... [SLTw]

A modest Public Service Announcement: EST does NOT mean "Eastern Time". Google "EST vs EDT". Use "Eastern" or "ET" instead, all year round, and avoid this common error.

it turns out that all those Postal Service songs from the early aughts already sound like they're about COVID-19 quarantine!
