Every day at 5 pm, GMT, British cookbook author, food writer, journalist, and activist Jack Monroe (@BootstrapCook; Wikipedia; cookingonabootstrap.com) is on Twitter answering questions about how to cook up the often seemingly unreconcilable bits and bobs lurking in readers' cupboards. For recipe / ingredients questions posted with the hashtag "JackMonroesLockdownLarder," Monroe generously shares on-the-spot ideas on how to make the most of what you have during tough times. (According to Wikipedia, "Monroe came out as non-binary in October 2015, and goes by both "she" and "they" pronouns." I believe this is (still) accurate.)

For locked-down cooking enthusiasts, you might get a kick out of superchef (yet quite the mensch) Massimo Bottura’s daily IGTV live broadcast (in IT-ENG patois) Kitchen Quarantine in which he and his family gather in the kitchen to cobble together dinners from whatever they happen to have to hand / find in the back of the fridge.

I did this for my friends on the 20th too! I posted a status on fb asking what they had in their pantry or cupboards that they'd bought with the best of intentions at some point in the past and realized that they should really get around to using because of The Current Circumstances. It turned into a 100+ comment thread, which was very gratifying. I was surprised by how "easy" some of the items people had been stymied by seemed to me - well, except for the person with a whole lot of salt cod on hand, but I suppose if there's a time one is likely to have time to desalt cod, it's the present moment.

jocelmeow, I'm seeing your comment with a timestamp of March 25, so wanted to point this out. It's now the 26th here in Greece, but there was some minor wailing and rending of garments in our household yesterday when we couldn't have salt cod!

On a more local scale, my favourite tiny local cafe are using their adorable and beautifully photographed Instagram account to suggest recipes based on what people have in the house.

If you're wondering' 'owt' means 'anything' in the local dialect of Yorkshire ('nothing' is 'nowt').
