The new Black Crowes lineup is good. They're meant to tour this summer, not sure if that's still happening with the virus cancellations.

Readers of drummer Steve Gorman's Crowes tell-all book will not be surprised to learn that he is not involved.

Yeah, there's been some grumbling that most of the former members have been frozen out of the reunion by the brothers. I was a bit disappointed that Rich and Chris didn't come to blows at the Tiny Desk. Great music but a very dysfunctional band.

Steve Gorman was the only other original member and he's been on bad terms with Rich and Chris for a while so he was never going to be asked to come back. But the new back up members are great players ( current/ex members of Once and Future Band, Earthless, and Howlin Rain ) and bring a more lively and current energy to the band.

Bassist Tim Lefebrve was an elite NYC downtown guy (Wayne Krantz, etc) before he moved to LA to do more rock and session work (Tedeschi Trucks Band etc.) It's probably the first part of his career that got him the call for David Bowie's last album. I don't know if he was also in any of the bands that you mention, but he is indeed a very notable sideman.

"Shake Your Money Maker" is a solid, start-to-finish record - I was so excited to find out they were going to tour on it again! I have tickets to see them in July, and when I bought them I thought the biggest risk I was taking was that they'd have another enormous fight and cancel everything!

Thanks for sharing this - I saw the Tiny Desk Concert and loved that one, too - "Wiser Time" was FABULOUS.

Black Crowes has always been near the top of my list of "Maybe I'm Dumb, But I Think This Is A Great Band" bands that nobody else seems to think are as good as I do. (I am dumb, though.)
