""I quickly realised that with no work and no social life, I had gone from having no time to having plenty..." All excuses I gave myself for not pursuing my creative ideas prior were now void.

All excuses I gave myself for not pursuing my creative ideas prior were now void.

These are lovely portraits (That Pris one! That blue one!), but I think “coping with living in a pandemic void, bereft of in-person human contact and income” isn’t necessarily the creative stimulus for everyone that some people consider it to be. Great work on her part, but I do wish that she had picked a different term.

I realy like these self-portraits. The Soul of the Rose one struck me, and now I am coveting that paisley robe.

I am trying to keep my hand in with my creative pursuits as much as I can but I have discovered that, as always, house-cleaning is at the very bottom of my list. I'm not even doing it as much as when I worked in an office all day, despite having 2 adults and 3 dogs in a small space that gets cluttered and dusty quickly. Ah well.

These seem different from Cindy Sherman's work, I think. The way I remember Sherman (I could be wrong) is that she makes images that evoke the style and implicit cultural assumptions of certain kinds of photos like film publicity photos, but that are not direct quotes or recreations. These images seem to have more explicit and specific inspirations.

Also, "what can I do in my home during lockdown with the stuff I have on hand" is an emerging genre. I think some these are very nice contributions.

Thanks for posting.

I think “coping with living in a pandemic void, bereft of in-person human contact and income” isn’t necessarily the creative stimulus for everyone that some people consider it to be.

When that Facebook meme about Isaac Newton and Shakespeare writing KING LEAR and discovering gravity was going around, I would point out that "yeah, but they both had families and servants who were quarantined WITH them who were responsible for doing the laundry and making dinner and stuff like that, and your circumstances are most likely different, so...." These are weird times.

Maybe, though, instead of quarantine "giving us time", maybe for some it is "reducing the distractions of the outside world" or "reducing the input of outsiders". Social conventions have gone out the window these days, so it actually isn't weird to dress up in a tiara to take out the trash right now. Or to spend your afternoon setting up a Pandora's-box themed photo shoot.

….I also want that robe from the spirit of the rose photo.

These photos are really neat. I like the idea that she's giving herself structure in her days though things like immersing in disco one day or reading Hemingway another. The moods are coming through, so it seems to be working.
