Yoko Kanno's band Seatbelts reunite for a virtual session to play Tank! [SLYT], the beloved theme from the anime (and soon to be live action series) Cowboy Bebop.

Why is it that I can find nothing else about, or by, this band? The last time I looked I was lucky to find that one track on YouTube and nowhere else. Is this the only thing they ever recorded?

I really love these as a genre, and this one was really great. However, I found myself surprised that they didn't see the little trumpet figure before the final chord as vital to the song, because I was really waiting for that di-di-di-di-di-di-di-di-di-di-dit di-di-di-di-dit di-di-di-di-di-dee .

The band was formed by Yoko Kanno for the sole purpose of recording music for Cowboy Bebop. I don't think they ever made any music unrelated to the series, though they have done some live performances. There are other gems on the soundtrack with a similar jazzy feel, for example Rush.

There are multiple albums worth of music from the series, by this band. Do a search for Cowboy Bebop OST.

They are encouraging people to film themselves playing along, and then publishing new mixes featuring fans’ contributions. Awesome project. I’d love to see some of the MeFi Music regulars get involved…
