What a detailed memory she has! A difficult read, but fantastic (and I'm not even done).

It makes you realize how sanitized the typical Holocaust education narrative is.

BigHeartedGuy, thank you for posting that.

The incident in the store, where she suddenly flashed back to the one allowed hour of shopping and stopped moving for a while -- I'm just imagining living in, say, a major US city in the 1960s, and how many Holocaust survivors I would have walked past in the street without even knowing it .... and how many people had experiences like the one Griesbach had in that shop, and then were helped by someone else who was recovering from the same thing, and saw what was happening and recognized it.

Well, it sure makes me think I'm a petty bitch for whining about quarantine when I could have lived through the Holocaust. I needed that.

This is not an easy read and honestly there were such vividly disturbing anecdotes in some ways it reminded me of John Hersey's Hiroshima, but it was well worth the read.
